street kids odessa ukraineShipping items to Ukraine is not as hard as it might seem. We have done it ourselves and received items from others successfully many times over. If you would like to ship something to Ukraine, a care package for an MIA team member, supplies for the ministry, or gifts for the homeless, orphans, refugees, or Ukrainian soldiers, let us know on the contact page and follow the instructions below. Regular mail can be sent via USPS or through Meest.

Socks in a Box

We have an outreach ministry to the homeless called “Socks in a Box”. MIA reaches out to Odessa’s homeless and disenfranchised by providing them with clean, quality socks and underwear. Homeless people in Odessa have little hope. We would like to offer them a friend in ourselves and in the Lord Jesus Christ and help them however else we can. One way we have decided to begin doing this is by providing them with clean socks and underwear. Bringing the homeless clean socks, warm gloves, and other items, helps us to break the ice and build a relational bridge leading eventually, hopefully, to a trust bond.

This is a great project for people to rally their church family or small group around! You can really bless people in Ukraine by filling up a box with socks and underwear for people of all ages.

The quality of these items in Ukraine is not as good as it generally is in the U.S. You can imagine if you were living on the streets, these would be very important items for you. We ask that you not send hand me downs or less quality socks then you would wear yourself. If anything, send better socks then you would wear yourself, as if you were offering them to Jesus.

SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS

STEP 1

Get a box and fill it up with your goodies (100 lbs max). It’s a good idea to have a strong cardboard box or to reinforce it with double layers of cardboard.

STEP 2 – IMPORTANT!

Make a list of every item in the box to bring with you when you drop it off at the agent.

BE SURE TO INDICATE VARIETIES OF PRODUCT AND TYPE. FOR EXAMPLE, WRITE “MEN’S SOCKS FOR THE HOMELESS – 20”, “BOYS SOCKS…- 30”, “GIRLS UNDERWEAR… – 10”.
PLEASE TAKE ALL ITEMS OUT OF THEIR PLASTIC OR PAPER PACKAGING!
PLEASE REMOVE ALL PLASTIC OR STRING TIES HOLDING SOCKS IN A BUNDLE! SO THAT CUSTOMS DOES NOT THINK WE ARE TRYING TO SELL THEM IN UKRAINE!
PLEASE DO NOT PUT ANY RECEIPTS IN THE BOX!
IT IS VERY HELPFUL IF YOU MARK THE SIZES IN BUNDLES WITH SOME MASKING TAPE.
Make sure it does not exceed 100 lbs. THANK YOU!

Tape up the box well. Be sure to tape up every seem.

STEP 3

Email us and let us know who you are and the name of your church group, and we will send you the address and phone number to put on the box. Feel free to let us know if you have any questions or need help with this process.

STEP 4

Locate a Meest agent. Agents are Ukrainians which live in the U.S. and receive a small commission from the shipping company for holding the parcel until a truck comes and picks it up to be delivered to New Jersey, placed in a container on a boat and shipped to Ukraine. You will be bringing the package to their home or place of business where they will have a scale and customs forms. After dropping the package off it will arrive at our door about two months later. Remember, this will be a cash only transaction. If there is not a Meest agent near you you can ship the package to an agent or the warehouse in New Jersey. To arrange this, call the Meest office.
